Day 2 - Is He Fair? & How Will He Grade Me?
Today we discussed the two big questions my students tend to think about when meeting a new teacher. Am I fair? I like to think I am, bit that us something each student will have to decide. I shared my Rules, Limitations, and Boundaries and will enforce them equally in the sense that I will do the least amount of correction needed for any student who breaks a rule (be on time, be prepared, be focused, and be willing). Violating the 7 Limitations is breaking a school policy, so I simply report a violation and the AP determines the punishment. Violating my classroom boundaries is also meant to protect students. There are certain places (behind my desk, in closets, and in my cart) where students may not be without my specific permission. The items on shelves and the wall are pieces of our museum, and as such must be treated with respect and care. All students will be given the same treatment if any of these things are violated during the year. I hope that seems fair ti everyone. How will I grade? Each grading period is 9 weeks. I'm not a big fan of grades, but we have to provide them as a way of feedback. Each week we will have a quiz. Each quiz is worth 10 points and an additional 10 points will be earned over the course of the 9 weeks for a total of 100 points for the quarter. Each quiz will be over the week's content and important material we have already learned. I hope that is fair and a way to provide feedback on student progress. iPhoned
